Diffusion Lab Report Due Friday 11/9...But I will take them if you are finished. Any previews need to be turned in on Monday!!!
MC and FRQ test will be on Wednesday 11/7.
Reminder that STUDENTS do not have school on Thursday, due to conferences.
If you have any questions email me at joseph.cheney@bayschoolsohio.org
See you Monday!! If you are absolutely bored out of your mind, Botany/Photosynthesis is the next unit. Chapters 7, 23-27. Workbook pages are in the Orange Biozone.
It is supposed to be nice this weekend, get outside and enjoy yourselves after being cooped up all week. Go to Columbus to support the Girls XC or Ashland to watch the Boys Soccer Team.

Good Luck XC!!
Good Luck at States, Maddie and Hallie, May Your Cellular Respiration be running at its maximum potential!!!
Power outage
AP students, hopefully you have your biology book and workbook with you. Change of plans and due dates. Diffusion lab report due 5 days after we return to school (as of now that would be Tuesday). M/C test will be Monday FRQ test will be Tuesday, provided we get back to school this week!
Keep up with reading and workbook pages!
Enjoy your days off, but you should be putting at least an hour of AP biology time in each day

Diffusion Labs: Guidelines to Lab Report: Due tuesday 11/65
Labs to be included in Purpose
1. Limits to Cell Size
2. Cell Membrane Model (for structural components)
3. Diffusion thru a Membrane
4. Osmosis thru a Membrane
5. Observing Osmosis in a Plant Cell
6. Osmosis Challenge: Finding the molarity of a vegetable and Identifying Tonicity of Solutions
7. Osmosis Challenge: Finding the molarity of unknown sucrose solutions using osmosis
8. Cell-to-Cell Communication Demo
Identify testable variables
Hypothesis
It is my recommendation that you bundle your purpose/ID testable variables/hypothesis for each lab.
Graphs and discussion of Errors
Conclusion & Summary
Include but not limited to:
Structure of cell membrane
Functions of cell membrane as seen in labs
How does diffusion/osmosis work? As seen in labs (can use Egg Lab)
Factors that affect diffusion (site examples as seen in labs)
Applications to real life
Discuss importance of Diffusion to life functions (go back to chapter 1 for list of lifes properties) Also include active transport.
Big Ideas
They are all in there!!
NO EXTENDED INQUIRY LAB IS NEEDED FOR THIS LAB REPORT.

What in the Cell is going on here??
With the successful completion of the Biochemistry Unit, we will now begin to investigate the functions of all those organic compounds. It is important that you go through the functions of all the parts of the cells.

BioChemistry Unit
Carbs, Fats, and Proteins....Oh My!!!
We are beginning our Biochemistry Unit. This is going to be one of the fundamental units for this course. It is very important to learn the structures and functions of these macromolecules, for this will be the basis of the Cellular Processes unit which is to follow. The date in parenthesis is the date I plan to talk about these molecules. The biozones are Page : Questions.
Intro (10/2)
Mader 3.1 Green Biozone 10:2 12:1-5,7 13:1-4
Carbohydrates (10/3)
Mader 3.2 Green Biozone 25:1-3 26:1-3 28:1-2 29:Read 30:1-4
Lipids (10/4)
Mader 3.3 Green Biozone 22:1-4 23:1-2 24:3-5

37:1-3 38:4-8 we will do p37-38 in class after a demo
There will be quizzes and activites sprinkled throughout the next few weeks to help us fully understand and check for understanding. Dates subject to change (like that should shock you!!)
